They were eating apples and the tender leaves off the trees in the orchard in the afternoon, trying to escape the heat. As they took their time, I was able to fit the 300 mm lens on to get a close up. I shot until the camera was full, as I don't often get them to hold still long enough to get a clear view. I think it paid off...
My flowers were absolutely lovely early in the week. The blossoms all bloomed out and I got photos of most of them. However, since we had unusually hot weather, by the end of the week, they had been burned. (Heat stroke for flowers too, I guess.)
The bees have continued to work faithfully, both good and naughtily.
Bumblebees are pollinating my blackberries and the yellow jackets are eating the cedar on our patio railing. I set out to capture a bee in flight, but it was so hard! Because they just lift off and are gone in a blur, I had a heck of a time. I must have taken 50 shots to get just one I liked! If I was still working with a film camera, I could never have justified the cost!
Dh grilled ribs out on the patio, though he thought it would probably work just to lay them directly on the concrete this week. I thought it must be a subliminal message of hope for cooler weather that the munchkins set the table with the snowmen tableware. It looked rather funny to me to see watermelon and ribs with the blue rimmed plates.
Here's a little exercise for you. I took a photo of this in order to use it for the play of light across the surface. I thought it would work in quite a few applications. Just what do you think it is?
I'm SO excited! School is out for the summer and I already have one project whipped up! I visited a new shop close by and they had ruffles on their window curtains. A lot of ruffles. It inspired me to come home and make a ruffled pillowcase for my niece.
Of course, I had to add a ribbon pocket and a mini picture. Usually I clip the mini's on with a miniature metal clip. I thought it would be nicer to just tie this mini bunny on, as she might end up being laid on.
The littlest munchkin has a penchant for frozen blueberries. We stored all of ours away in the deep freeze in the
cellar, so I never noticed that they were being snitched. That is, until I went to get some ice cream and found it completely melted down the inside of the door. Aargh! Last weekend I got to cook up all of the thawed meat and fish. This week it was all of the berries.
I've seen two baby deer this week. We think that Apple, Plum's baby, had a fawn this spring. The munchkins have taken to calling him/her Cherry. The second baby was one I saw today, on the way to pick up the older munchkins from Challenge Camp. (They did a ropes course camp.) The deer were walking down the road in front of us. It startled me, and I really should have climbed out of the car to focus properly, but I just took shots out the window. Next time I'll think more clearly!
It's the eve of "America's" independance and I'm scrubbing the house for the Dutch invasion. All of "rabbit's friends and relations" were going to Pooh's party and all of mine are coming to "Deer Haven". It will become a mini outpost for tea three times a day (I thought we'd thrown it all in the harbor...) and very very clean house. This will allow me to sneak off and make some art in my studio while everyone else is sneaking around cleaning out my kitchen drawers.
I've been gathering photos for a Dutch themed book to make with www.mypublisher.com . One of my girlfriends made one and it turned out so nice and on heavy stock paper, so I thought I'd try my hand at it too.
There were three deer eating off of my apple trees tonight in the orchard. My trees are big enough to handle it so I wasn't too worried. (We ended up throwing away three big bags of apples last year as I wasn't able to keep up with all the peeling.) Of course, they left before I had the chance to snap
their photos or you would have seen them here.
However, I did catch a few photos of a "baby" the other day. I think he's the one we call Plum because he likes our plums so much. (His mother is Apple, I'm sure you can guess why.)
I hope you are enjoying your summer, your company, and your travel.
